Took a hydrofoil ferry to Aegina 40 mins from Athens. A quiet island with a colourful port, fishing boats, horse drawn carriages and street cafes. Athenians like to come here for the weekend to get away from the hustle and bustle. Had a great lunch at the dripping octopus cafe of traditional Greek fare. The downside was been harassed by begging gypsy children at Athens Port after giving a few Euros to a girl playing a broken accordion and then having taxi drivers fighting over our fare on our return: you clearly feel the desperation of Athenians in the middle of a financial crisis.
