The end of our holiday was spent in the historic seaside town of Dubrovnik, the streets and sea were void of tourists given it was the cold off season so we got to enjoy it like the locals who ventured back into their homes - deserted in Summer whilst rented out to tourists. The only down side was limited options for eating out, but we had a relaxing time and loved the hotels pool/steam room and spa to relax in before the long return journey home.
Dubrovnik's fortified town - amazing view from our hotel |
The Hotel Excelsior - very nice spa and a nice way to end the tour.
The town was deserted as it was winter off season so
we were able to stay at this normally too expensive hotel.

Went down to the harbour and this fisherman called out and said he could take us around on a tour for a negotiated price, he had interesting stories of fighting in the Croatian War. |

A groto on Lokrum Is |
Onofrio's fountain 1438 |
'Little Venice' Dubrovnic's architecture was borrowed from Italy's as it was a regular maritime stop over. |
Bell tower Luza Square 1444 - bronze men 'Maro and Baro' beat the bell. |
Stradun (Placa) main street |
Onofrio's fountain from which we and one other person did a local guide walking tour - interesting getting insights on the impact of the Game of Thrones on their home and also the history of the war. |
Pharmacy of the Franciscan Monastery 1317 |
Walking the surrounding ancient city walls. |
Lokrum island in the back ground |
A nun doing her washing. |
Currently being restored but this is the image of Columna de Orlando 1418 - a symbol of independence and freedom which survived the bombing in the Croatian war in the 1990's. |
