Loved Takayama a very cold traditional preserved town. Famous for its Festival floats, old wooden buildings, sake houses and tea rooms. We stayed at Spa Hotel Alpina a modern Japanese hotel with a lovely onsen on the roof top, it appeared to be the place that Japanese went for a nice weekend away, and if it wasn't for the 'idiots guide' to onsen I probably wouldn't have tried it so its thanks to Spa Hotel Alpina that I managed to get my 'kit' off at a few other onsen on our trip. While we stayed here we took a train to a nearby village called Hida-Furukawa to do a bicycle tour.
